Using Hypnotherapy and CBT to overcome difficulty in stopping smoking.

Attempting to stop smoking is a highly stressful experience calling for a good deal of resilience and determination.

If, however, you have been trying to stop for some time and have begun to convince yourself that you are incapable of doing so, then you are competing not only with your habit but also with the considerable power of your own mind.

Hypnotherapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy offer excellent ways to overcome the thoughts you are experiencing, and so set you on the road to complete success in stopping smoking.

How difficulty with stopping smoking may be affecting you.

Stopping smoking is a sizeable challenge for any smoker, but people frequently develop beliefs or other ‘mental obstacles’ which make giving up seem impossible.

  • A feeling of resignation at knowing exactly what you’d have to do to stop smoking but being certain that you will never be capable of achieving this affects many people.

  • Continuing to smoke though worrying more and more about your health is also common. This particularly affects people who have suffered a ‘red flag’ warning such as a heart attack or a concerning shortness of breath.

  • Continuing to smoke though increasingly bothered by the social and financial implications is again extremely common. Smoking is an ever more costly habit; and joining the outdoor ‘smokers huddle’ feels less and less socially acceptable.

I have recently completed my hypnotherapy session to stop smoking after trying several other methods. Paul helped me to feel completely at ease and created a calm, secure environment to allow me to feel able to relax. The assessment process is comprehensive, which enables Paul to tailor the programme to your needs which I feel is the key to the success of the treatment.

My approach to helping overcome difficulties with giving up smoking.

Each smoker’s challenges are different, and so I decide on the most appropriate therapy only once we have discussed this. My core therapy tools can all paly valuable roles.

Hypnotherapy provides a totally safe way for me to help you visualise being able to stop smoking and then living without smoking. This increases your confidence in your ability to achieve this in real life.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy can also be extremely useful in addressing difficulty in stopping smoking, helping us to plan and effect conscious and important changes in your behaviour.

Mindfulness is what I refer to as a ‘mind maintenance’ tool. I use this to show you how to recognise and respond effectively to triggers and feelings that threaten your belief in being able to stop smoking.
