*Pain Management Hypnotherapy – how does it work?

The importance of the mind in developing pain management is well documented and there are an infinite number of studies and reports available for those wishing to delve deeper into this. I am sure that most of us will have seen fire-walking for example, or even dental surgery without chemical anaesthetic where the patient appears to experience no discomfort.

The Hypnowellness Approach to Pain Management

The Hypnowellness approach to pain management is split into two areas.

Firstly, through the application of  Clinical Hypnotherapy, the client learns to visualise their own ‘control panel’ with a dial or ‘volume control’ through which they can envisage ‘turning down’ the degree of discomfort they are experiencing. Indications for this approach are primarily for pain that re-occurs in a consistent area of the body.

The second approach  to pain management Hypnotherapy is to teach an intriguing system where the client learns the technique of “glove anaesthesia”, sometimes referred to as the “healing hand”. They will learn through hypnosis how to visualise an anaesthetic ‘power’ in their hand which they can then apply to the affected area .

This method is often use where there are ‘mobile’ pain centres. That is, where pain or discomfort is not always sited in the same place in the body. Other uses might include headaches, toothache, and neuralgic conditions.

Alongside this hypnotherapeutic approach, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) may also be recommended to help establish an important new postive attitude to your condition.

I regularly see people needing help with pain management at all my practice locations – in North London in Highgate, in Radlett (Herts), in South Woodford in East London, and also from my City of London (Bishopsgate) practices.

Appointments for Hypnotherapy and CBT Therapy sessions for pain management or discomfort can usually be made very quickly; and regular sessions are recommended.
