How does Self-Esteem & Confidence Develop?

If we managed to absorb enough confidence-boosting through our formative years, then our self esteem will be sufficiently robust for us to be resilient to the disappointments and blows that occur through life’s normal experiences. However, if for any reason we don’t get enough of this “ego-strengthening” or we are overloaded with harsh criticism and punishment, we are likely to be more vulnerable to these setbacks.

We also learn through both direct and subliminal channels what our expectations of our adult lives should be. Whether or not we achieve this arbitrary position in the wide-world hierarchy will again have a massive impact on our perception of our self worth, or self esteem.

Recognising, accepting, and showing compassion to your true self

The issue of our own self-esteem, and how we perceive it, is fundamental to how happy we feel about our ‘place’ in the world. Through childhood and beyond, we develop an understanding of where we ‘ought to fit’ in relation to other people, our peers, and our parents.

Self Esteem Hypnotherapy – how does it work?

A vital part of the process of developing a healthy self-esteem is to learn to recognise the “critical voice” that we use against ourselves. If unchecked, this “voice” can continually wear away our confidence, and without us even realising it, can lead to us feeling inadequate and unable to cope.

Hypnotherapy and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) are helpful approaches to assist in enabling us to begin to compassionately counter this “voice” and to boost the motivation we need to make the necessary changes to the way we look at ourselves.
